My twiddler 3 abruptly stopped working, which made me immediately think about https://forum.tekgear.com/t/bricked-twiddlers-solution/496 but whatever that went wrong happened while the twiddler was perfectly still on my desk. How can I diagnose it?
Here is the full context:
It is the twiddler I mostly use untethered, and after an untethered typing session I plug it via USB to retrieve the twiddler.key
on my desktop computer running the preview/development version of OpenBSD. I usually unmount the file system right after having removed the file, and let the twiddler charge through the USB cable overnight.
That day, maybe hours after the extraction, while I was away from the desk, something weird happened, which ended up crashing the USB stack of my desktop OS, so I rebooted it (and lost all logs of whatever happened). I have no idea whether the twiddler might have caused it, or only suffered from it. That same evening, I unplugged the twiddler to charge another device using the same cable.
The morning after, I noticed that the green LED of the twiddler was still on, as if it was still connected or paired to something. That must have been at least 6 hours after it being unplugged, I don't remember whether there was a bluetooth device to pair with nearby, but even then it should still have timed out after the configured 15 minutes. Being in a hurry and wanting to save whatever battery remained, I flipped the power switch.
Since then, the twiddler is completely unresponsive, no matter what I do with the power switch or the button. I tried several USB cables, and several OSes, and none of them report any USB event. The LED is dark when unplugged and bright red for some time when plugged and eventually turns dark.
Are these symptoms consistent with the senstive power switch issue? Can it be something else? Is there anything I can do to further diagnose the issue (without trying to melt the case glue, because I really don't feel comfortable at all trying that)?
Is it even worth diagnosing further or should I just try to open a ticket at this point?
