So two thoughts:
1) You discovered my weakness! =]
So it took me awhile to realize the pinky in TMX has too many high freq characters, space especially (though I'm fine with index finger) . Once I did though, I was around 30 hours of training in and was getting very good WPM results. I was more interested how fast I could get at 40 hours than I was in reseting to a 2.0.0 config that would require retraining from scratch again (and no guarantees it would actually be better). At 40 hours, I felt TMX was good enough to release 1.0.0. Also, I'm still progressing at 60 hours training and I will continue with 1.0.0 until I'm not improving. It's also a lot of work to fully layout 2.0.0 since all the two key chord letters have to be re-optimized and also all the MCCs and possibly symbols. Whew getting tired just thinking about it.
2) Vowels are most frequent overall (ETAOIN SRHLDCU except U) but they aren't most frequent bi-grams which is really what Typemax is optimizing:
TH HE IN (ER AN) (RE ON) (AT EN) (ND TI ES) OR (TE OF ED) (IS IT) (AL AR ST TO NT) (NG SE HA) (AS OU) (IO LE VE) (CO ME) (DE HI) (RI RO) (IC NE EA RA) CE LI CH LL BE MA SI OM UR
The vast majority of most frequent bi-grams are consonant/vowel or vowel/consonant. So to maximize stride the first optimization is different fingers for consonants and vowels.
